2025 Predictions: The Future of Healthy Indoor Spaces
As we closed out 2024, we saw a growing recognition of the importance of indoor air quality (IAQ), driven by heightened regulatory attention to clean, healthy environments and a greater understanding of IAQ’s impact on health and wellbeing.
From the adoption of air quality standards like ASHRAE 241 to advancements in monitoring technologies, the industry is set for significant transformation.
As we look ahead to what is to come in 2025, Susan Labadie, President of CerroZone, highlighted five key trends that will shape the IAQ industry:
1. ASHRAE 241 adoption and regulatory oversight gain momentum: Governments at the state, city, and federal levels are expected to increasingly adopt ASHRAE 241 standards in 2025. At the same time, regulatory agencies, including the FDA and EPA are likely to ramp up scrutiny of air quality devices and crack down on false efficacy claims, pushing for greater accountability across the industry.
2. Renewed focus on workplace air quality: As industries encourage a return to in-person work, employers are recognizing the value of high-quality IAQ in creating healthier, more productive office environments. As more return to in-person work environments, there will be a heightened focus on measuring and improving IAQ in office spaces.
3. Emerging IAQ technologies and AI integration: Advancements in sensor technology for air quality measurement, along with the integration of AI to take proactive actions and predictive modeling, are poised to revolutionize how we monitor and improve IAQ.
4. Reaching health-conscious consumers: Health-conscious consumers are driving demand for advanced IAQ solutions as optimizing health becomes a mainstream priority. Expect to see indoor air quality products integrated into service offerings from HVAC providers, making advanced solutions more accessible to consumers.
5. Growth in diverse IAQ markets and consumer demand: Growth is expected in nontraditional markets like funeral services, driven by EPA attention to formaldehyde usage, as well as in large-scale building integrations where IAQ measurement and solutions will become essential.
